I am a foodie; not a food snob. I enjoy a huge Hershey bar as much as I savor a small piece of Godiva chocolate. I enjoy a cold beer in a can as much as expensive champagne served in Waterford crystal. To me, the company with whom I share the meal matters more than the contents of the meal. Food is about so much more than fuel for the body. It’s about being in touch with my senses and immersing myself in laughter, camaraderie, and conversation around a shared meal.
In the decade I have been running Vermont Shortbread Company, I've seen the specialty food market growing in leaps and bounds. I believe that people are returning to comfort over convenience, quality over quantity, and authenticity over packaged foods. I've watched the emergence of the slow food movement and I'm grateful for the trend.
I am embarking on a foodie Web site development project with a fellow writer/foodie friend which will showcase recipes, fantastic food writing, tips, techniques, and products we love. We call ourselves lemongrassgirls. Why? We love Thai food and alliteration.
Chances are if you're reading this blog you're either a foodie or a small business owner (or both). Our upcoming site may interest you if you answer yes to most of these questions:
- Are you sick of hearing about low carb this and low fat that and wish you could just enjoy a meal without needing a PhD to analyze it?
- Do you believe that when we listen to our body’s signals by slowing down, we find our own perfect weight and nutritional patterns?
- Do you relish inexpensive Ramen Noodles as much as you savor a filet mignon with cabernet caper sauce, depending on your mood?
- Do you like to shop and plan your meals daily, European style, based on what’s fresh and appealing, instead of bulk buying?
- Do you believe it’s possible to prepare nutritious, delicious meals quickly?
- Are you wowed by the visual aesthetics of a lovingly-cooked, well-presented meal?
Interested? Stay tuned for the URL and the unveiling. I'm thrilled to combine my passions, writing and food, and to share the adventure with a like-minded friend. And yes, you will be able to purchase Vermont Shortbread on our site (as well as on the upcoming new, improved Vermont Shortbread Company site), too.
