I just had lunch next at the next table over from our governor, Jim Douglas, at a local pizza/burger/sandwich place.
I've met Mr. Douglas at various state-sponsored women's business events, but didn't immediately recognize him today. Of course, the starched white shirt and tie and body guard with darting eyes checking out everyone who walked in should have tipped me off.
The funny thing is not one person in the restaurant paid any attention to him. I love that about Vermont. In fact, at first, I was thinking, "Is that really Jim Douglas or some dressed up guy having a leisurely lunch after church?" I had to ask my 11-year old daughter, "Is that the governor over there?"
She replied, "ay-up," and went back to munching on her chicken fingers.
I see many Vermont politicians at the gym or in local eateries. Now if I can only get them to eat shortbread.
Only in Vermont can you eat lunch in a local sandwich joint next to the state governor.
I love living here.

VT is the best. I love it there, must get back up there as soon as I can!
