I'm up early packing product for the Shelburne Farms food and wine festival later this afternoon. There was a fine mist hanging over my field this morning with bright yellow golden rod adding a splash of color. My asters are starting to bloom - a sure sign of autumn in Vermont.
If you're in the Shelburne area this afternoon and don't know what to do, may I suggest a trip to Shelburne Farms? Even if you don't make it to the food and wine show, there's nothing like a stroll by the lake on a sunny day, with the autumnal Adirondacks looming to your west, fertile farmland to your east, and Vermont's sparkling "sixth great lake" ** gently lapping at your feet.
I'm looking forward to day of hob-nobbing with my favorite shortbread customers, sipping wine, and sampling some of Vermont's finest meats, cheeses, and desserts. Vermont Shortbread Company is proud to be synonymous with "fine food".
Stay tuned for photos of this wonderful event. I'll be posting them on this blog, in Short Bites (my newsletter - be sure to sign up in the box to your left on this page), and on my web site. I'll be back next week after a little bit of golf (my latest obsession) and some relaxation.
Your friend,
Anniezee, The Shortbread Lady
**Interesting Vermont Factoid from Wikipedia: Lake Champlain, on the border between upstate New York and northwestern Vermont, briefly became labeled by the U.S. government as the sixth "Great Lake of the United States" on March 6, 1998, when President Clinton signed Senate Bill 927.
