Seriously, I really didn't know until this afternoon (Monday). I usually boycott the festivities and work or knit instead. I'm a real party animal. :-)
Last night I opted to drive my daughter and her 4 teenage friends to a Super Bowl party in Jericho. Driving home, with thoughts of homemade chili in the crockpot, I was very careful. The roads were icy and it was snowing lightly. Plus there were cops everywhere. So tooling along near Mount Mansfield High School below the speed limit, I was not prepared to lose control of the car on an icy bridge. My car did about two Z's from side to side before planting itself firmly in the guardrail overlooking a river (stream?). I don't know what the body of water was; all I knew was that I was quite sure I was going in it. My mind flashed to an episode of Mythbusters which talked about getting out of a sinking car. Luckily, the guardrail held. I bent it about 4-5 feet and recall looking down toward water, but my wheels stayed on solid ground.
I have a good driving record. I was not drinking, I was wearing my seatbelt, I was not speeding. That's what freaks me out today - thinking about following the rules, doing the right thing, and still bad things can happen at any moment.
Wow, that could make me really paranoid.
Or it could make me think more about living in the moment, a sentiment that often strikes me as very cliche...but the other choice (constant anxiety) isn't too appealling.
I'm undecided right now. The whiplash hurts too much. I'll be back to shortbread business soon. I'm glad to be safe and healthy right now.
Maybe I'll start watching the Super Bowl and think about incorporating more fun (and junk food) into my world.

Hey Ann--glad to hear that you're ok!
Best wishes for your healing!

So scary! Glad that you are alright. I have a fear of being in a submerged car. I'd panic and forget how to quickly get out. Thanks goodness for guardrails.
Junk food and stress go hand in hand. After spending the evening with a friend (couple years back) in the emergency room with heart problems, she baked chocolate chip cookies, made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, fully loaded, then stuffed the cookies between the gobs of jelly and peanut butter.
Good luck with the whiplash!

I was reading the first few lines, hoping that the end of this story would NOT have you alone in a wrecked vehicle on a frigid night.
I'm glad to know you're okay and didn't end up in the water. Just thinking of that makes my stomach kind of sink into my shoes a bit.
Sorry to hear that your whiplash is hurting. :( Rest up and take extra calcium and magnesium. With Vitamin D.

Oh Ann - I'm was multitasking as I read this blog. We have a new puppy and he was NEEDING me. I read your first sentence and then got up to tell him that Josh's earphones was not a bone. I grabbed some coffee and was smiling to myself because I too did not know who won the super bowl. I can't tell you how upsetting it is picturing you on that bridge! I thought the blog was going to go in a whole different direction! I am so glad you didn't end up in the water. Do you need me to make any shortbread deliveries?

I just left you a message and then read your posting! I'm so glad you are ok. One of my biggest fears is going into water with my car -- glad to hear that guard rails do hold up.
Get better -- and glad you're not into Super Bowl, or it would be too painful for you to hear how I've been jumping up and down over my Giants winning!!!

I was thinking Ann... what if you were not such a rule follower? I am so glad that you were doing all the right things! Just think if you hadn't! It could have been so much worse! I hope your neck is feeling better. Let me know if you want to do some livn' in the moment - junk food or not :)

All right, just checking in to see how you're holding up.
As far as superbowl parties... they really ARE fun, and you don't have to be a football fan to enjoy them. Being surrounded by sports nuts, hearing the roar of their victory shouts or watching them fume when their team screws up... it's just kind of invigorating.
Superbowl parties always have plenty of awesome party food. And usually there are kids running around which always livens the mood. I even toss a few dollars into the football betting pool which makes it exciting for non-sports fans. This year I won $65 bucks!
You can even knit at a superbowl party, or have a girly catch-up if there are wives around. Pretty much anything goes on Superbowl Sunday.
I hope you're feeling better.

Yo, Dina. It's been a challenging week and seeing your cheery prose here made me smile. Maybe I'll dress up like a cheerleader for next year's Super Bowl.
I was thinking that the past week kind of reminds me of a bad country and western song incorporating all of the following themes: my dog puked on the rug, I crashed my car, got no money in the bank, my spouse's ex has is milkin' us dry, I have no whiskey left, and the snow plow done blocked me in the driveway.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.
I have to go make Valentine's shortbread now. Yum!
Hugs,
Anniezee

Ann, thank you so much for the yummy little shortbread hearts. I had a house full with Josh's buddies. They gobbled till the hearts are almost ALL gone! They were a huge hit! I filled the box you sent me with (including a check) goodies and mailed it back to you yesterday. You should receive it TUE
