As I was Googling myself today (I do it about once a week), I found my name mentioned on a fun new blog called the Vermont 251 Club. I lost track of time as I became engrossed in Jacky Graves' wonderful resource, fun writing style, and eventually found my way to her Vermont 251 Club web site.
What's Vermont 251, you ask? According to the web site:
"In the Summer 1954 issue of Vermont Life Magazine, Dr. Arthur W. Peach suggested the creation of an informal club for people interested in visiting all 251 cities and towns in the State of Vermont. This became known as the Vermont 251 Club. vt251.com is a great tool for you (and your friends) to track your progress, save pictures (and notes) for each town and to share your experiences from your travels through the Green Mountain State with others."
As the description says, the cool thing about this site is that you can write comments about the places you've visited and post photos as well. I suspect I missed a few town and cities on my profile. I decided NOT to include the towns I've simply passed through (everything along I-89), but to only include the towns in which I've actually gotten out of my car and in which I've spent more than 15 minutes.
After my weekend visit to some friends' camp in Eden (I had never been there before), I am feeling inspired to haul my new fancy camera out wherever I go now and challenge myself to shoot photos and bring samples of my famous Vermont Shortbread to every gosh darn town in this state.
I adore Vermont lore and history, so I quickly signed up to create my own page where I can track which of Vermont's 251 towns and cities I've visited. Here is my page: http://www.vt251.com/user/annzucc. If you look at my public site, you'll see I've only posted 1 comment...about Winooski. My daughter was born in the Woolen Mill Apartments in Winooski in 1994. As far as I know, she was the only baby born in this historic mill-turned-trendy-apartments. A few years before the best shortbread in the universe was created that was my only Vermont claim to fame.
What's yours?
